Annual SCGeo Events and Opportunities

  • Alliance Summer Geography Institute

The SCGeo sponsors a Summer Geography Institute at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina. The Institute is a one-week training program intended to increase teachers’ knowledge of geography, introduce teachers to new teaching techniques and materials, and help them develop skills in presenting in-service workshops to other teachers. All K-12 teachers, pre-service students, and those involved with K-12 education outreach are invited to apply.

  • GEOFEST

GEOFEST is a professional development conference attended by K-12 educators, pre-service teachers, college instructors, media specialists, and curriculum coordinators. A typical Geofest offers content lessons presented by USC geography faculty, standards-based teaching strategies for the elementary, middle and high school classroom, and sessions on using SCGeo teaching materials.

GEOFEST 57 was on February 8th at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

  • Workshops

We offer pre-service workshops for South Carolina colleges and universities, and in-service training for schools and school districts across the state. Workshops typically include standards-based lessons and free classroom resources. We design professional development activities to suit individual class or school needs.
